We are spending some much time prepping to do things worth writing about that I haven’t had time to write about it. So a short summary would be:

Monday

  • Ate lunch at The Grit
  • Picked up our Total Pork Program Meat CSA from MoonShine at Farm255
  • Dinner was a noodle stir-fry using the purple broccoli I bought through Athens Locally Grown

Tuesday

  • Lunch at Just Pho and More. Darren had a Green Tea Bobo
  • Picked up our Veggie CSA from Roots Farm
  • Bought a Scooter

Wednesday

  • Made biscuit with berries (yummy ones from out CSA)
  • Watched the USA beat Algeria to advance in the World Cup! Scored in stoppage time. Booyah!
  • Received our Amazon order containing Darren’s special gloves for dumping the tanks in the RV
  • Got the oil changed and the car washed at University Car Wash
  • Wrapped the Twin’s 1st Birthday Gifts

What’s that? The third item on Tuesday? You noticed that….. Uh Yeah, we bought an Adly La Vita Scooter from Recycle here in Athens.  It is arriving on Monday and we with any luck we will be taking it with us on our trip.  I am so excited.  I have been wanting a scooter for a very long time.  Now seemed a good time for us to do it.  Not only is it going to be useful for getting from campgrounds to track, but around the track as well.  Also I am very much interested in lowering our fuel consumption.  I am going to smile every time I drive past a BP station knowing that is one less dollar that I will be giving them or their kind.

Breakfast & Outgoing Trip Plans

punkerdoo | June 21, 2010 | 10:06 am

Immediately after I completed yesterday’s post, I did exactly as I said I would.  I made myself an omelette using the remaining chanterelles.IMG_2970.JPG I also threw in the rest of the pancetta and fontina. Served with a side of fried potatoes, it was the best breakfast I have had in a long time.   Darren phillips.jpgwas working in Atlanta and would not be getting home until 7PM.  Sshooting a cap/gown and a graduation ceremony of 1500 students in Philips Arena takes up most of your day.

I spent the rest of my day nailing down our route and lodgings for the outgoing part of our trip.  Texas does not use Reserve America for their state parks, so it took me quite a long time to find good places to stop.  I found a place near Dallas and then went looking for somewhere to stay near Amarillo.  That is when I fcame across the Palo Duro Canyon State Park, the Grand Canyon of Texas.  lighthouse_356x500.jpgIt looks really beautiful  and I can’t wait to see it.  Originally, I had only planned one night in Amarillo, but I made reservations for two nights so that we will get the chance to see the park.

Sunday Brunch and a Birthday

punkerdoo | October 18, 2009 | 11:42 pm

Eggs with Homemade Salsa Verde & Pot BeansJust wanted to post how brunch/breakfast (we ate at 10:30 am, you decide) turned out.  Ended up putting a little salsa verde over the eggs, which I placed on top of the pot beans.  As you can see, I also included a couple of strips of bacon (had to, it was Sunday bacon)  The combo tasted pretty good.  I did over-cook the eggs a bit.  I would have preferred lots of runny yolk on the beans.

We also have a birthday in the house.  Everyone wish Chris a Happy Birthday with me.

I hope you didn't put those back

Happy Birthday Chris!

A new recipe app, Salsa Verde, and a win for the Dawgs

punkerdoo | | 10:48 am

I spent the majority of yesterday, planning my menu for the week. It has been a few weeks since I had made a solid menu and shopping list, instead just picking up things as I thought of them. I have many vegetables from Athens Locally Grown that were aging away in my fridge. In my usual fashion I became obsessed with the organization software rather that the organization itself. Merlin Mann‘s number one no-no. Being a recent Apple convert, I downloaded the trial version of MacGourmet. It seems to do everything that I would want my cookbook/shopping list app to do. The best feature by far is it’s ability to import recipes directly from several major cooking websites, such as Epicurious, Pop-Up Central FoodNetwork, MyRecipes, and Vegetarian Times. You do have to clean up the ingredients a little, i.e. for large potato, it puts the word large with the ingredient rather than in the unit column. This makes 2 large potatoes on the shopping list a different item  than 3 small potatoes. Since recipes are written with only a semi-logical set of rules, I can forgive the program’s inability to completely discern the difference. Forget Captcha, you want to know if a user is a bot? Make them tell you where in the store to find 1 cup of Italian-style diced tomatoes.

The result of all my menu planning would be my making Salsa Verde for Huevos Ahogados En Salsa Verde or “Drowned Eggs” to have for this morning’s breakfast. I had purchased tomatilloes from Athens Locally Grown for this very purpose. I have made this recipe once before and it is most delicious; however,Drowned Eggs the number of tomatillos I had only yielded a cup or two of salsa. Obviously, no egg would drown in this amount. I think I will serve the salsa with our eggs anyway, since I also made mexican pot beans last night and I think the combo will be good. The pot beans are made with pintos from Rancho Gordo. As a matter of fact I need to type faster, because I am getting really hungry.

Last but not least, our beloved Bulldogs finally had a decided victory. Yeah, yeah it was against Vanderbilt, but it was a win and hopefully a shot in the arm
