Today our drive took us from Sebastian Inlet State Park to Bahia Honda State Park on Big Pine Key.
We hit Miami at 5 PM, not the best of timing. Consequently, we sat in traffic for an hour. Couple this with the fact that we stopped at the Whole Foods in Fort Lauderdale and we arrived here much later than planned.
In a strange twist of events, the previous day Darren had tweeted that we were headed to this park. Our friend from Athens said that his parents were campground hosts here. This coincidence turned out to be significant. When Darren attempted to call the park to tell them we would be arriving late, he learned that their phone system was not working. This meant that we could not get the gate code. Thinking that we would be spending the night along the highway, Darren told our friend of our plight and we now sit in the comfort of our own campsite, beneficiaries of traveler’s serendipity.
We made it to the Keys
