Back at Mistletoe State Park

The sun set on day two

Leaving for my first ever solo flightDarren is shooting five graduations today.  He left at 6:15 this morning and will probably not get back until 8:00PM.  We decided it would be better for his hectic schedule if we camped near Augusta.  That way when he had back-to-back days shooting he would not have to drive the two hours  from Athens.  The only problem is that he is working so much there was not a reasonable time of day that he could come with me to get the RV set up in the campground.  So I did it all by myself! Yep, my first solo flight.  I drove the RV from Athens to Augusta, parked it in our camping spot and hooked it up.

I have driven many miles in the RV, but Darren was either with me or following in the car.  I had no problems at all.  It was a piece of cake.  It was a good thing I made myself do it because as I was washing the conditioner out of my hair this morning, I felt the water pooling at my feet.  The grey tank was full.  I put everything up, unplugged us and went to the dump station.  Another first!  What’s next? Mountain climbing? Skydiving?

I was glad to be coming back to Mistletoe State Park.  We discovered it on Darren last bout of Augusta Graduations.  It really is a lovely campground and we couldn’t believe how empty it was.  This trip covers a weekend and on Friday morning people starting streaming in. It definitely is no longer deserted but IThe sun setting over the J. Strom Thurmond Reservoir wouldn’t say it’s crowded either. You cannot reserve a specific site online so the tip for this campground would be to show up early Friday to get your choice of spots for the weekend.

Most of the spots sit right on the J. Strom Thurmond Reservoir (Yep, the same Strom Thurmond that spoke for 24 hours straight in an attempt to fillibuster the Civil Rights Act of 1957) Other than the name, the reservoir is beautiful.  If you plan your stay you can have your choice of spots with a sunrise or a sunset view.  We are staying until next Tuesday and I truly hope Darren finds some time to enjoy this park.
